What counts as a word?
Words are counted as groups of non-whitespace characters separated by spaces, tabs, or line breaks. Repeated spaces and blank lines do not add words. Hyphenated words and contractions count as one. A standalone number, punctuation mark, or emoji also counts as one group. Languages without spaces are not segmented into individual words.
