Validate a public address
What is checked?
Checks Base58Check addresses (P2PKH and P2SH), Bech32 SegWit v0, and Bech32m witness v1–16 including Taproot. Checks the checksum, prefix, witness version, length, and padding. Mainnet, testnet/signet, and regtest are recognized.
Validation runs locally using the open-source scure-base and noble-hashes libraries. A valid format does not confirm ownership, account activity, balance, or the intended recipient.
Does a valid result prove who owns the address?
No. Format validation does not identify the owner, check the balance, or confirm that an address is the intended destination. Compare the entire address and network with the information supplied by the recipient.
