Text File Splitter
Split a large TXT file into smaller files by lines or characters. Choose the number of parts and download them together in a ZIP—your file stays in your browser.

How to split a text file
- Select your file and choose how many parts to create (2–1,000).
- Choose lines to preserve complete lines, or characters to divide the text evenly.
- Select the input encoding. Most modern text files use UTF-8.
- Click Split file, then download the ZIP containing all parts.
What happens to my text?
Line endings and text are preserved. Extra lines or characters go into the earlier parts, so counts differ by at most one. A final line ending does not add an extra empty line. Character splitting keeps Unicode code points intact, but may separate combined symbols such as multi-character emoji.
For example, notes.txt becomes notes_1.txt, notes_2.txt, and so on inside notes.zip. Files stay on your device.
Splitting CSV files
Line mode works for simple CSV files, but it does not repeat headers or understand quoted fields containing line breaks. Use the CSV File Splitter to repeat a header line in every part. It also splits by physical line.
Example: split a text file into equal parts
A text file with 1,000 lines split into four parts produces four files with 250 lines each. Choose character mode when you want to balance character counts instead; it can divide a line between files.
