Line splitting

This tool always splits by line. Lines are distributed evenly between the output files.

Treat the first line as the header and repeat it in each part. Turn this off if your file has no header. The header is excluded when balancing data lines.

All output files use UTF-8. Original line endings are preserved.

Privacy-first Files stay in your browser.

How to split a CSV file

  1. Select your CSV file and choose the number of parts (2–1,000).
  2. Choose whether to repeat the first header line in every output file.
  3. Select the input encoding and click Split file.
  4. Download the ZIP containing your numbered CSV files.

How lines are divided

With header repetition enabled, a header plus 10 data lines split into 3 parts produces files containing 4, 3, and 3 data lines, each with the header. Without repetition, every line is treated as data and the first line appears only in the first part.

Each part contains at least one data line. A final line ending does not count as an extra empty line. For example, data.csv becomes data_1.csv, data_2.csv, and so on inside data.zip.

CSV files with multiline fields

This tool splits physical lines, not parsed CSV records. Quoted fields containing line breaks may be divided between files. Use it for CSV files with one record per line.

Does the CSV header count toward the split?

With header repetition enabled, the first line is excluded when balancing data lines. A header plus 100 data lines split into four parts creates four files with 25 data lines and one header each. Quoted fields containing line breaks are not treated as a single record.
